    How hard it is will depend on how complex/unique you want the design to be, and on the supplier you’re working with. Some suppliers have vector artists on staff who can help you with the design, and they may even offer that service for free on bulk orders. But if your chosen patch maker doesn’t offer that service, you’ll have to either design the patch on your own or pay someone to do it. And while there are templates online that can make this process easier, it’s still a bit tricky.

    Another thing to consider is the material you’re going to use. As the woven patches vs embroidered patches guide put together by Ultra Patches explains, embroidered patches are better at rendering simple and bold designs. The nature of embroidery means that no details in the patch can be smaller than the stitch length of the embroidery machine. Woven or PVC patches are better at rendering complex designs.
