Curious about my Glowlight Tetra?
Hey there, I’m really curious about my Glowlight Tetra and trying to figure out if it’s a male or female. I’ve been doing some research, but I’m still a bit unsure. I’ve heard there are some subtle differences, but I’m not sure I’m seeing them. Would love to get your thoughts on how to tell them apart. Also, I have a fun story - the other day my tetra got a little spooked and jumped right out of the tank! Luckily I was able to scoop it back up quickly, but it gave me a bit of a scare. Anyway, let me know if you have any tips on sexing these little guys.

Ah, the age-old question of tetra gender! As a fellow Glowlight Tetra enthusiast, I can totally relate to your curiosity. These little guys (or gals) can be tricky to sex, but don’t worry, you’re not alone in your quest for answers.
First off, let me just say - yikes, that jumping incident must have been quite the heart-stopper! I can just imagine the panic as you scrambled to get your little fishy friend back where it belongs. Glad to hear you were able to scoop it up safe and sound. Gotta love how these guys can keep us on our toes, huh?
Anyway, back to the sexing dilemma. From what I’ve read, one of the subtle differences to look for is the dorsal fin. Females tend to have a slightly shorter, more rounded dorsal, while the males often have a taller, more pointed one. You’ll also want to keep an eye on the shape of the body - females tend to be a bit more rounded and full-bodied compared to the slimmer, more streamlined males.
I recently stumbled upon this super helpful guide that breaks down the visual cues in even more detail: https://www.allaquariumfish.com/is-y... Definitely worth a read if you’re still feeling a bit unsure.
